Floral Journey reveals how beaded floral designs were more than just a decorative art form. Spiritual symbols are embedded within each design. The art form became a means of both cultural and economic survival for many Native North American people. In an effort to aid visitors with recognizing these symbols, a system of icons were developed and used throughout the gallery design. They were utilized on object labels to help identify certain symbols present in often elaborate designs. The icons also drove the visual identity of the exhibit, their presences could be noticed in exhibit promotional materials and large-scale environment murals.
